德鲁里分析指出:马士基航运遭遇新威胁!
近日,世界知名航运分析机构德鲁里在其一份分析报告中指出,马士基航运的发展受到了新的威胁,而这个威胁来自于COSCO。
今年6月份的网络攻击事件让马士基遭受巨大打击,损失近3亿美元,也造成马士基的准班率大大下降。
德鲁里在本周发表的第三季度中期的航运分析报告中指出,马士基航运的发展又遇到了新威胁,由于近期COSCO在欧洲航线的一系列动作,很可能会削弱马士基在欧洲市场的竞争力。
德鲁里指出,COSCO最近推出的第二条欧洲地中海环线,是COSCO扩大其非亚洲航线战略的一部分,COSCO准备在2018年开通往返欧洲的南北航线。航线开通后,马士基航运的主要市场将受到威胁。
其指出,COSCO进入欧洲市场的可能性很大,将削弱马士基航运在欧洲南北航线市场的份额,而这两条航线是马士基航运收益的主要来源。
另外,马士基航运第三季度的财报数据也显示,马士基航运没有跟上市场增长的步伐。
6月份网络攻击事件导致马士基航运的货运量下降了2.3%,损失近3亿美元。
Drewry: Cosco threatens Maersk Line's ambitions for 2018
A new threat has emerged to Maersk Line's growth.
The carrier is still struggling with the aftermath of the cyber attack that paralyzed the entire Maersk Group this summer and triggered setbacks in earnings as well as delays for Maersk Line, which is lagging behind competitors in reliability.
The strain on the carrier is evident in the third quarter interim report released this week, which Drewry has analyzed.
In the analysis, Drewry notes that competitor Cosco's big growth plans in Europe could pose a threat to Maersk Line.
"The recent launch of a second North Europe-Med loop is part of Cosco Shipping's strategy to extend its non-Asian liner activities. The Chinese carrier is preparing the launch of additional North-South services to and from Europe in 2018," writes Drewry, stressing that Maersk Line is thus threatened on its key markets.
"The likelihood of Cosco’s entry into this market in a big way could erode Maersk Line's market share on the North-South and East-West trades – both of which together account for the company's largest portion of revenue and volume."
Maersk Line not growing at the pace of the market
In the third quarter interim report from Maersk Line, it showed that Maersk Line is not managing to keep up with the growth in the market.
During the Q3 period, the container market developed better with growth of 5 percent compared to the same period last yaer. And the development boosted Maersk Line, where freight rates grew 14 percent in relation to the second quarter.
Yet Maersk Line still declined 2.3 percent in transported volumes due to the hacker attack in the summer.
On the headhaul routes, volumes rose 0.6 percent but declined 8.8 percent on backhaul. Maersk Line landed a profit of USD 220 million relative to a loss of USD 116 million in the same period last year.
Revenue landed at USD 6.1 billion, relative to USD 5.4 billion in the third quarter 2016. The carrier previously projected a profit of USD 1 billion for the full year. In the interim report Tuesday to around USD 1 billion.
